Apprenticeships are offered in the two main trade disciplines, electrical and mechanical. In each of those trades, Mackay Sugar offers two types of appenticeship:.
Advertising for the annual intake commences in early August, with a closing date in late September each year.
As part of the recruitment process, an Apprentice Open Day is conducted annually in September at our Racecourse Mill site prior to the application process closing. Prospective applicants can take the opportunity to tour the sugar mill and speak with the apprentice masters and current apprentices.
Shortlisting is completed by our nominated recruitment agency in late September to early October following a range of selection activities including resume reviews, screening interviews, aptitude and psychometric assessments. On-site interviews and visits are conducted by Mackay Sugar in mid to late October.
Apprenticeships and employment offers are made in early November, with sign-up occurring in early December, for commencement in mid-January of each year.
Mackay Sugar offers traineeships from time to time in the area of administration.
Traineeships are employment arrangements supported by the State and Federal government which encourage training of new and existing employees. Traineeships are suitable for most individuals over the age of 16 (sixteen) or who have completed Year 10 schooling.
